The Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, Maria del Mar Villafranca, and the regional Delegate of Environment of Andalusia in Granada, Francisco Javier Aragón, have presented this morning at the conference hall of the Palace of Charles V the seminar “El arte y la técnica de la Jardinería: tradición y futuro” (Art and Technique of Gardening: Future and Tradition), which will close next Friday. Also has assisted this event the president of the Asociación de Forestales de España (PROFOR), Nicolás de Benito, organizer of this course.
These conferences aim to reflect the importance of the Gardening industry and the creation and management of green areas as a mean of achieving more sustainable municipalities. Experts related to the fields of heritage and environment will participate in this seminar for debate, in which also will be held round-table discussions to exchange opinions.
At the opening session, José Tito Rojo, Professor of Gardening, Landscaping and Public Space at the University of Granada, has explained to the assistants the History of the Moorish Gardening, whereas Santiago Soria, of Madrid´s City Council, has spoken in his speech about Historical Heritage Gardens.
In the afternoon, Rafael de la Cruz, Manager of the Department of Gardens and Forests of the Patronato de la Alhambra, has exposed in his conference the complex issue of managing the green areas in the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife. Later, José Esteban Hernández, Director of the Banco de Germoplasma Vegetal Andaluz, has detailed the plants used in Islamic Gardening; and José Maria Irurita of the regional Environmental Ministry, has spoken about the Botanical Gardens.
