El Patronato de la Alhambra and La Obra Social “la Caixa” sign a framework agreement for collaboration to promote measures and joint activities in the Monumental Complex
María del Mar Villafranca, Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, and Juan Reguera, South Aresa Executive Director of “la Caixa”, have signed today a framework agreement for collaboration between both institutions facing the future.
According to the content of this agreement, both entities promise to collaborate in, among other projects, joint interventions in the restoration of Alhambra´s Heritage, joint production of national and international exhibitions and projects for better accessibility to the Alhambra in order to facilitate the access to the Monumental Complex to every visitor.
This point, in particular, intends to make real the undertaking of works for better accessibility to the Monumental Complex suggested by a recent specialized report prepared with the aim to improve the accessibility of the historical and monumental Complex, especially for persons with disabilities.
In this sense, both entities have agreed the creation of a Monitoring Commission that will determine the projects that to undertake within the framework of the agreement. This Commission will be formed by members of both institutions and will meet periodically in order to study the initiatives proposed to be undertaken.
One of the first actions foreseen as a result of the signed agreement are the works for better the accessibility of the building suggested by the Estudio de Arquitectura Rovira-Beleta.
The proposals for actions in this study, entrusted by the Fundación “la Caixa” and the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife show that there exists the possibility that more than 70 % of the Monumental Complex can become accessible or improve the current accessibility. It is a pioneer and novel study in this field for having as subject a BIC (Good of Cultural Interest) that also is a World Heritage Site.
The solutions proposed by the architects are the use of removable structures, for incorporating accessibility in an unnoticed way and respecting the Monument, with ramps, handrails and banisters, accessible or repaired urban furniture, accessible toilets with information signs, and accesses with the technical assistance and new technologies in accessibility, which allow their use by all visitors who are guided in a comfortable and secure way.
