Holders of the Carnet Joven continue to enjoy discounts at the Alhambra site, after an agreement signed in Granada between Raúl Perales, director of the Andalusian Institute for Youth (IAJ), and María del Mar Villafranca, general director of Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG). Under the agreement, cardholders are offered a 30% discount on the price of the general day visit.
The Carnet Joven youth card, which costs €6, can be acquired at IAJ offices and Youth Information Centres and at branches of Andalusian savings banks. The card is currently used by some 260,000 Andalusians aged 14-30, who enjoy special conditions on a range of goods and services. In Granada, some 23,000 young people are users of the card.
Perales underlined the importance of the renewal of the agreement, because “the regional government guarantees young people access to a quality cultural offer, made available to all”. Villafranca also evaluated the scheme very positively, as the fruit of a “policy of cooperation which allows young people to participate in a top-quality cultural offer”, and announced that the cardholder discount will be extended to evening visits. Since Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife joined the scheme in 2008, more than 150,000 persons have taken advantage of the discounts on offer – over 30,000 in 2011 alone.
Participating businesses
Some 2,900 businesses participating on the scheme in Andalusia offer cardholders discounts of 10-35% on their goods and services, mainly in the sectors of food and drink, accommodation, sporting and leisure activities, beauty, sound and image, IT, fashion, cultural activities and medical services.
On 16 January next a new online application is set to come into use, by means of which businesses interested in taking part in the European Youth Card scheme in Andalusia will be able to sign up online. The application may also be used by participating companies to change or update the discounts offered to European Youth Card holders.
Moreover, the application will make it easier for young people to obtain the European Youth Card, either through participating centres or online, using the E-ID card or Digital Certificate.
