Children will be the stars of the show this summer at the Alhambra, where everything is ready to welcome once again schoolchildren of between 6 and 17, who are interested in discovering new ways of looking at the monument during their holidays. This activity will be organized in weekly sessions from 4th to 29th July and the price is €60 per week.
On Monday 6th June we will be opening the registration period for the “Summer at the Alhambra” educational programme. Those interested in booking a place can download a form from the official Alhambra website alhambraeduca.pag@juntadeandalucia.es, fill it in and send it by e-mail to alhambraeduca.pag@juntadeandalucia.es, where their booking will be confirmed.
Each week the participants will be divided into three groups on the basis of age. The youngest group, the Arrayanes (Myrtles), will be made up of boys and girls of between 6 and 9 years old; the Atauriques (Arabesque) will be from 10 to 13 years old, and the Alarifes (Master Builders) from 14 to 17. The programme for the week combines educational activities with tours around the monument, often to places normally closed to the public. This will enable the children to discover new ways of looking at the Alhambra and to learn about taking care of and protecting their local heritage.
The drop-off and pickup point will be at the Alhambra’s educational area, the Casas de la Mimbre, situated behind the monument’s ticket office.
This year the youngest children will discover the Tales of the Alhambra and the materials used to build the fortress. They will also find out more about the Green Alhambra, through its fauna and flora.
The children of between 10 and 13 will visit the areas of the monument related to science and religion, as well as other places inhabited by birds, amphibians, fish, squirrels … They will also tour the different towers in the fortress and learn words inherited from Al-Andalus that we still use today. Music will provide the icing on the cake for a week full of surprises.
The oldest children, the Alarifes, will be taking part in epigraphy workshops, and will explore the different cultures that inhabited the Alhambra, finding out more about the role of women in the fortress and doing a workshop about gender equality and another about photography.
