Biodiversity
The Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife has a rich heritage which goes beyond its architectural structure and the decorative elements that embellish it.
Nature brings together values such as heritage, the landscape and biodiversity, creating a perfect symbiosis between them and making it possible to undertake a comprehensive protection and conservation program.
The Green Alhambra is a set of ecosystems capable of performing important environmental services, services which nature exudes and provides society, such as regulation services (improved air quality, climate regulation, soil retention, groundwater recharge, etc.) and cultural services (spiritual enjoyment, leisure activities, etc.).
In the different vegetation units which make up the green Alhambra – gardens, forests, vegetable gardens and olive groves – there is great diversity in fauna adapted to living in each of the spaces they occupy.
The Trust seeks to carry out sustainable management so that transformations and modifications to environmental conditions necessary for undertaking the tourist and cultural activity are respectful and maintain a healthy balance in the variety of animals, plants and other organisms in the environment. In turn, an effective control of faunal populations is vital, stimulating and respecting the balance between living beings and the cultural heritage.
A healthy ecosystem, such as that which exists at the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife, repays us with great benefits and allows us to move away from the need to use products which negatively affect our health.
