Tower of the Gunpowder
The “Torre de la polvora” is a small medieval islamic tower which is a part of the defensive nasrid system of the Alcazaba. It is situated in the north-east an in a slighty advanced position relative to the wall which makes it an strategic point for the control of the attackers whose access was though the watercourse situated in the foothills, now known actually as Cuesta Gomerez.
In Christian times, it was incorporated as an important defensive element in the reforms done since the mid XVI century, wich tends to addapt the part of the alcazaba to the defense by the general use of the artillery, what today is called the Adarve garden, at that time it was a powerful artillery position, of which tower was a very important part.
TIMETABLE: From 8:30 to 20:00. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.
ACCESS: With ticket “Alhambra general” and “Alhambra Gardens, Generalife and Alcazaba”
CAPACITY: Maximum 30 people at one time.
