Tiles from the queen’s dressing-room
The Queen’s dressing-room is one of the most beautiful, most emblematic towers in the Alhambra. The high quality, very special materials used in the design, construction and decoration of this space demonstrate its original importance.
This tower was best known for the murals that decorate its walls, although perhaps its most unique feature in the Nasrid era was its floor-tiles and the motifs with which they were adorned.
These tiles are some of the few examples in which human figures appear as the central theme in the decoration. This shows that the oft-repeated claim by many historians regarding figurative representation is not altogether true.
By studying these tiles, we will try to clarify one of the greatest “myths” about the Muslim world.
