The Korans

The collection of pieces at the Museum of the Alhambra contains two copies of the Koran of extraordinary beauty. One dates from the Almohad period and the other from the Nasrid era.  They were both purchased to enhance the Museum collection. Although these two Korans are today in fragmented state, we can still discern the different colours of the the inks that were used to adorn them and the different epigraphic, geometric and plant motifs used as decoration. 
Those attending the guided visit will find out more about these pieces, their origin and history. We will also be describing their particular characteristics and providing all other available information. 
We will then go on to briefly describe the structure and format of the sacred Muslim text and the process it has undergone to reach its current form. The texts will be analysed and presented from a linguistic, historical and literary point of view. 
In addition to their religious value, these two pieces are also of great artistic note, which explains their privileged position amongst the other pieces that form part of the Museum collection.
