International Day for Monuments and Sites
To celebrate International Day for Monuments and Sites, 18 April, Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG) has organised a series of activities based around this year’s theme: Understanding the challenges for the future. These will include free tours through the Generalife mediaeval kitchen gardens and the Alhambra’s defensive towers, guided by heritage interpreters.
Further information can be obtained and bookings made at the PAG office at Corral del Carbón, 12 Mariana Pineda, Granada, where visitors will also receive a booking confirmation. Places on the tours are limited due to capacity.
International Day for Monuments and Sites was proposed by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) on 18 April 1982, and approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983. The aim is to promote awareness about the diversity of the world’s cultural heritage, its vulnerability and the work required for its protection and conservation.
