Arabic Antiquities-Drawings from the Academy in the Alhambra
"El Legado de al-Ándalus. Las antigüedades árabes en los dibujos de la Academia" (The Legacy of al-Andalus. Arabic antiquities in drawings from the Academy) is the title of an exhibition that is coming to the Alhambra next month and can be viewed from the 27th October in the Temporary Exhibition Room at the Palace of Charles V (Crypt).
Organized by the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in collaboration with the Mapfre Foundation, the exhibition presents all the original drawings from two important projects from the 18th and 19th centuries entitled “Arabic Antiquities in Spain” and “Architectural Monuments”. These would later become milestones in the artistic appreciation of Islamic art, and as a documentary record of the most important Hispano-Muslim monuments.
The exhibition highlights the enormous importance of these two artistic endeavours and commemorates the people behind them. It also aims to promote this valuable collection of drawings, which offer a greater understanding of monuments as important as the Alhambra of Granada and the Mosque of Cordoba, both of which are World Heritage sites.
Admission to the exhibition, which will be on until 15th January 2017, is free.
